Vertical Farming Pilot
Where self-sustainability research meets hands-on ecological education.
The Vertical Farming Pilot is a proposed research installation that will serve a dual purpose: advancing our self-sustainability research pillar and providing a living laboratory for educational programmes focused on food sovereignty, ecological design, and systems thinking.
The pilot will test whether small-scale, low-cost vertical farming systems can be practically operated within educational and community settings — not just commercial facilities. We are particularly interested in the pedagogical value of running such a system: what do learners gain from direct engagement with food production, nutrient cycling, and resource management?
Data from the pilot will feed into our Urban Self-Sustainability Index and inform workshop content on sustainable living. The installation is designed to be replicable, so that Satori branches worldwide can adopt and adapt the model for their local context.
