Sustainable Systems & Vertical Farming
Get your hands dirty with the science and practice of growing your own food — vertically.
This workshop is born from the Satori Institute's self-sustainability research pillar and our Vertical Farming Pilot project. It is designed for people who want to understand how modern food production systems work, why they often fail, and what practical alternatives look like at a human scale.
The morning session covers systems thinking fundamentals — feedback loops, leverage points, and resilience — applied to food and resource systems. The afternoon is entirely hands-on: participants will design, assemble, and plant a small vertical farming unit using affordable, replicable components.
You will leave with a working system you can take home, a maintenance guide, and a deeper understanding of how ecological design principles apply far beyond farming — to organisations, communities, and personal life.
